The Gift We Can All Give

Author: Chuck Fitzgerald

There are shelves, aisles, stores and malls full of Christmas gifts. We might be able to afford this one or maybe that one. He would love this or wow, thats perfect. Christmas gift giving is one of the most fun, most stressful and most expensive traditions we have. But every year we stand in line for more. God Bless every one of us. But I have another suggestion for you and it is more fun, less stressful and virtually free. Are you interested? How about this? I recommend this Christmas, everyone of us should give the gift of

Ok, I dont know how to say it in one word or one phrase but I can paint a picture of it for you. Being outdoors is one of my favorite things. Whether it is sitting on my oak swing watching birds around our feeders or driving as far as I can off of the pavement, I love being outdoors. I love the outdoors so much that when my family goes to the mall, I stay outside well maybe thats a different issue.

Simply stated, outdoors is where Id rather be. But how did this come to be? Why do I like the outdoors so much? I know many people who would rather have their teeth pulled than spend any appreciable amount of time out of doors. My love of the outdoors started the very first time I went fishing. Not because I liked worms, crickets or sharp objects. I loved the outdoors because I was spending time with my grandfather. Just the two of us. I cannot remember doing anything else with my fathers father other than being outdoors. Wed walk to the corner store or sit under his cherry tree or if everything went right, wed fish.

This Christmas, give someone you know (or want to know) the best gift in the world. Give them life long memories of time spent alone with you. Take them for a walk, a hike or a bike ride. Go camping, fishing or boating. Watch the night sky together or catch a sunrise. Just the two of you, outdoors. This gift will keep on giving and will supply great memories for many years.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Get Outdoors!
