A Mother's Day Prayer! Mamma Whispered Softly!

Author: Greg Ryan

Patty Lovelace Country Music

Verse #1
Through the back window of a 59 wagon
I watched my best friend Jannie slippin away
I kept on waving, til I couldn't see her
And through my tears I asked again
Why we couldn't stay

Chorus
Mamma whispered softly, time will ease your pain
Life's about changing nothing stays the same
And she said, how can I help you say goodbye?
It's ok to hurt and it's ok to cry
Come let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you say goodbye?

Verse #2
I sit on our bed, he packed his suitcase
I held a picture of our wedding day
His hands were trembling, we both were crying
He kissed me gently and he quickly walked away

Chorus
I called up mamma she said time will ease your pain
Life's about changing nothing stays the same
She said, how can I help you say goodbye?
It's ok to hurt its ok to cry
Come let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you say good-bye?

Verse #3
Sittin with Mamma alone in her bedroom
She opened her eyes and then squeezed my hand
She said, I have to go now, my time is over
And with her final words she tried to help me understand

Chorus
Mamma whispered softly, time will ease your pain
Life's about changing nothing stays the same
And she said, how can I help you say goodbye?
It's ok to hurt; it's ok to cry
Come let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you say goodbye?

Today we are recognizing Mother's Day. Let us remind ourselves that nothing can be more strengthening than a mother's love for her child. And no love could be greater than Mary's love for her son, Jesus.

I often wonder what was Mary thinking when she watched her son being crucified that day upon the cross? Was she thinking of the times Jesus was a child and his feelings were hurt each time they move from city to city?

What about thetime when one of Jesus' closest friends betrayed him and he had to walk away from the relationship. She was there with a hug of support? Or maybe she was thinking of the time when Jesus couldn't understand why death had to come in life? Each time she was there to offer him strength of a shoulder, the love of an unconditional heart, and a word of comfort.

But, what was Jesus thinking as he hung there on the cross looking down at his weeping mother? Thank you mamma for the kisses when I fell and hurt myself on the gravel in the driveway.

Thank you mamma for helping me understand that loving and losing is better than not loving at all.

And thank you mamma for being here when death is so hard to face. I have to think in some place down deep in Jesus' heart through all the pain and suffering his body was going through at the time physically while he looked down and realized his mother was there he remembered;

Mamma whispered softly, time will ease your pain Life's about changing nothing stays the same And she said, how can I help you say goodbye? It's ok to hurt; it's ok to cry Come let me hold you and I will try How can I help you say goodbye?

Back then as it is today, mammas give us strength, love and many times understanding when we need it the most. Let us today and everyday remembert that if it wasn't for our mothers, changes in life, hurts on the play grounds, and tears from our hearts may be just too unbearable for us to take. Thank you mamma for loving us, but most of all thank you for being there at the foot of the cross and loving Jesus Christ.
