At home I have an area set up for my children that contains things that I know they will enjoy playing and creating with regularly. I have what I call a 'useful box'. It contains basic art and craft items like pencils, glue, scissors, paper, newspaper, glitter, paints, crayons, alfoil, pop sticks, etc. Anything that they might enjoy creating with. Nothing in the box is expensive and it's all widely available. Occasionally I restock it or add a few things, like plastic bottle, shopping catalogues, bottle tops, magazines and the like. The children know that if they are bored or can't think of anything to do then they can go to the useful box and find inspiration. I also have a box of old clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, bags and cheap jewellery. The children like to dress up in these old clothes and have heaps of fun. Books, leggo and puzzles are also items that have been added over time to the play area. Playdough is another item that I include on rainy days or during the school holidays. The children enjoy helping me make it and they certainly enjoy playing with it when it's ready. The walls of the play area are covered in their artwork. We have also added shelves so that their sculptures and creations can be displayed. Weekends are a time where we can spend time as a family playing board games. We have made some fantastic ones with the children doing the artwork for the boards. Perhaps you could consider making a game with your children next weekend? |
