Recently a very well known politician stated in sizing up the situation in Iraq that maybe Muslims did not have the capacity to live in freedom due to the law of Islam and the way of life of that peaceful religion? This grew sharp criticism at first although his reason for making the point is clear enough and such current events would make one stop and wonder. Well the argument of whether the Muslims have the capacity to be free is worthy of discussion. But if you have a religion, which is a way of life like Islam and you adopt that or are forced to thru social conditioning then you have either chosen it or adopted it out of necessity. One on the inside could say they are free and wish it to be this way. Someone on the outside could say; "are you nuts, look what you are missing" in the end it is rather perspective based. Perhaps if we look at other Muslim nations, which have made the switch to moderatism of Islam that we can see a better picture of the possibilities. It appears that it is very possible that Muslims can live in a democracy with liberty, justice and freedom for all. In Iraq they just needed a headstart and they showed thru their purple fingers they are capable and soon it will be so. Of course there is still work ahead but a lot of progress too has been made which is quite obvious indeed. |
